Festival of Colors

On Sunday, the International Students Association put on their sixteenth annual Festival of Colors (FOC) where performers of all cultural backgrounds are welcome to perform whether dancing, singing, skits, you name it.

Since winter break I was trying to learn the choreography for the chorus of BoA's "Eat You Up." I was determine to learn it if I couldn't perform it in time for FOC. However, there was an inkling in my mind that I would perform at FOC regardless if I learned it or not.

After break I was able to learn it. Then I told people about how I got it down and my friends were just as much of a fan of BoA as I was so after teaching a few people, I started forming a group telling them that I wanted to perform at FOC.

The team started with two, then three, then five, then four, and then five again, and we added a six. Six became our group.

At first, I was a bit frustrated. Most of these members did not dance hip-hop before and I couldn't understand it because dancing came so easily for me. I was afraid we were gonna suck, and I figured out that I can be snippy when people talk back at me or try to control the situation when I am trying to teach. Most of these individuals haven't been to dance class so they haven't experienced what a real serious practice is like.

But we had a strong team. They were willing to have extra practices, improve on performance, and kick it. The results were more than what I could ask for. Throughout the dedication and commitment they have given, I can see we were gonna really shine. And we did.

I could not have asked for a better group.
